Outreach Coordinator

The Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP) is in search of a person to fill the newly created position of Outreach Coordinator. This job requires the successful applicant to possess the talents of an organizer, public speaker, trainer, (basic) web designer, communication network builder, and campaign manager. Considerable travel is expected.

ITEP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization founded in 1981 to conduct analyses of federal and state tax systems. ITEP is the research and education arm of Citizens for Tax Justice, which advocates fair taxes for middle- and low-income families, closing corporate tax loopholes, adequately funding important government services, and taxation that minimizes distortion of economic markets. Highly regarded for its sophisticated modeling capabilities and timely analyses, ITEP was instrumental during the recent debate over the Bush tax plan by providing critical analyses that showed the true costs and distribution of the proposed tax cuts. At the state level, ITEP’s analyses have contributed to numerous debates over adequate funding of government services.

ITEP works with a wide variety of organizations around the country, ranging from state budget and tax policy organizations to grassroots organizations devoted to working family issues. During each legislative session, ITEP works with its state partners to analyze tax legislation and provide alternative proposals for more equitable outcomes.

ITEP has published numerous reports on state and federal tax policy, including Who Pays?, a distributional analysis of the tax systems in all 50 states, and Corporate Income Taxes in the 1990's, a review of 250 of the nation's largest corporations and their tax-paying–or non-paying–habits. ITEP has also published a series of in-depth reports on the tax systems of individual states, including Arkansas, Iowa, and Minnesota.

The Outreach Coordinator will work with staff researchers to make ITEP research and analyses more accessible to a broadened audience.
